Loving Glances

A lovely, funny romantic fantasy from veteran filmmaker Srdjan Karanovic, this bittersweet film about lost loves and dating dilemmas is sublimely sexy and surreal. It is in 1995 post-war Belgrade and amidst the city's sea of refugees is the handsome student Labud (Senad Alihodzic). Lonely since his fiancée left for Chicago, the young man tries a computer dating service, which results him meeting the divinely beautiful Romana (Ivana Bolanca). As Labud tries to become romantically involved, he is visited by a series of opinionated and meddlesome ghosts: family members and friends who died during the war but return to offer advice on his love affair. A charming romantic comedy notable for being a rare post-Balkan War film that does not involve killing, but instead showcases refugees trying to eke out a normal life - and fall in love - in this strange landscape.
